Our Mission

"What is your connection to the ocean?"

The Ocean Link Project is based around this question. Beginning from winter 2022, the project was developed by Ariana Thornton and Tanya Das as part of Phillips Exeter Academy's Ocean Awareness and Action Club in Exeter, New Hampshire.

The Ocean Link is a collaborative digital collage raising marine awareness and passion among today's youth, with the goal of uplifting stories from around the world. Regardless of whether your home is coastal or land-locked, the gift of our world’s oceans is revealed in the core of our day-to-day life. Oceanic plankton produce up to 80% of the oxygen we breathe – more than all the world’s trees. The oceans provide food, medicines, and support livelihoods and national economies. We call upon you to observe your region’s rivers, tap water, rainfall, and stormwater runoff. Where do they come from? How are they used? Where do they lead?

In the midst of a growing climate crisis, the oceans are increasingly polluted and damaged. It is more crucial than ever to raise climate literacy among students and instill a fundamental sense of passion, mindfulness, and urgency in youth regarding their link to Earth's oceans. All are connected; the oceans are our livelihood, our story, and our future.
